Age Needn’t Be A Barrier – My Story

Having been employed in several industries where my work has been mainly sedentary, I have always had an interest in keeping fit and have been a regular gym attendee and jogger for the last thirty years. 


But I have noticed many fitness clubs appear to focus on promoting their services to a younger clientele sometimes overlooking the needs of older individuals for whom getting into or returning to regular exercise after several years’ absence, can be a daunting prospect. With this in mind, I have become a personal trainer specialising in working with a more mature client base who might benefit from my age and experience.

As we get older our lives get so busy with work and/or raising a family, that regular exercise can come pretty low on the list of priorities. In middle age, going to a gym for the first time or when one hasn’t been to one in many years or just undertaking an exercise programme at home can leave one feeling unsure of where and how to start. How does one evaluate the right programme to achieve one’s goals whether it is to lose weight, increase strength and conditioning or just improve one’s general health?


As a ’60 SOMETHING’(!) myself, I believe I am living proof that age needn’t be a barrier to being fit and want to promote the great benefits that a regular, individually tailored exercise programme can bring to one’s health and well-being. 


My philosophy is based on a belief that a fitness programme is not about lifting heavy weights, spending hours on cardio equipment or looking for short-term fixes. It is about adopting a holistic approach to exercise and nutrition that will have long-lasting beneficial effects and will motivate one to continue long into the future. 

I am fully qualified PERSONAL TRAINER - Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training. Registered with CIMSPA – Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity
